Flat with levels

Tainan, Taiwan, 2020

Twenty years ago, a large-scale development of public housing communities consisted of single-story duplex units, each unit featuring a layout with three bedrooms. The interior area is approximately 100 square meters with a clear height of 2.7 meters.

In order to accommodate new housing patterns reflecting current family compositions, the aim is to enhance spatial fluidity, loosen the rigid housing types, and engage in dialogue with the original spatial layout. Without significantly altering the interior floor plan, the strategy involves adjusting existing openings to introduce new openings that engage in dialogue with the scale of the space.

二十年前大規模開發的國宅社區，為單棟一層兩戶，單戶三房兩廳的平面格局類型組織，室內面積約為100平方公尺，淨高為2.7公尺。

為了符合當下家庭組成的新住居模式，希望透過增加空間的流動性，鬆動僵化的住居類型，並與原空間類型對話。在不大幅變動室內格局前提下，調整原有格局的開口尺寸，並增加與之對話的新開口。三個彼此相差20公分的地面高層與相差20公分寬度的開口，組織成既似螺旋又反螺旋的空間架構，尺度差異讓空間壓縮與開闊感同時並置，房間是廊道的一部分，是起居空間的一部分，亦是房間本身；一部分的收納櫃成為踏階、一部分則為白牆的延伸，曖昧模糊的空間物件與日常生活共構為一個全新的整體經驗。
